Ekohydrologia to nauka zajmująca się badaniem i integracją procesów biologicznych i hydrologicznych oraz ich wykorzystaniem dla łączenia wiedzy technicznej i ekologicznej w celu poprawy potencjału środowiskowego i jakości wody przez opracowywanie rozwiązań bliskich naturze i rozwiązań systemowych w gospodarce wodnej.
Książka ta jest unikatową, pierwszą w Polsce publikacją poświęconą tej prężnie rozwijającej się na świecie transdyscyplinarnej dziedzinie wiedzy będącej podstawą rekomendowanych przez ONZ i Komisję Europejską rozwiązań bliskich naturze.
Publikację tę kierujemy m.in. do hydrologów, hydrotechników, projektantów, inżynierów budownictwa, ale również pracowników administracji na szczeblu wojewódzkim, samorządowym, a także studentów studiów technicznych z zakresu inżynierii środowiska czy wszystkich zainteresowanych ochroną środowiska.

Ecohydrology for the assessment of the activity of the Water Framework Directive -
Meeting on 20 February 2020 in Brussels
Professor Maciej Zalewski was appointed as an expert on behalf of the Committee of the Regions to issue an opinion on two pieces of European Union law that are key to EU policy in the field of water protection and flood safety: The Water Framework Directive and the Floods Directive. The subject of the opinion is to what extent these acts remain relevant in the light of current challenges and problems, and in what direction their revision should go. The Committee of the Regions, one of the EU's important advisory bodies, has received a working document on the subject prepared by the European Commission for its opinion.
The Committee of the Regions is the voice of regional and local communities in Brussels, an EU advisory body made up of locally and regionally elected representatives from all 27 Member States. Its primary role is to make recommendations on how the European Union should shape its policies and laws on issues that directly affect regions and cities. As an outstanding scientist and creator of the concept of ecohydrology, Professor Zalewski was elected as an expert by Mr. Piotr Całbecki, Marshal of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship, who is a member of the Committee of the Regions Committee of the Environment, Climate Change and Energy (ENVE) and acts as rapporteur for the opinion prepared by the Committee of the Regions.
On 20 February 2020, an open consultation meeting was held at the seat of the Committee of the Regions in Brussels, attended by representatives of the EC and European NGOs, associations of local and regional authorities and regional offices. The aim of the meeting was to gather the voices of stakeholders, which served as a necessary material for the preparation of the "Assessment of the activity of the Water Framework Directive and Floods Directive".
